Is Epidemic an Exaggeration?
Epidemic a scary word but Alzheimer’s is a scary disease. There are many statistics associated with the growth/needs related to this disease, but what does it all really mean? It means we need to be educated and prepared. It means we have opportunities to meet the needs of those diagnosed and their caregivers. According to the Alzheimer’s Association, 5 million + people in the U.S. have a dementia diagnosis and it’s estimated to grow to 16 million by 2050. Sadly, there is no cure for dementia. However, there are treatments that may slow the progression and improve life quality.
